Aegis...the shield of Zeus

Over the year lots of people have asked us if we could make a full cut model that offered a lot of protection and that was suitable for serious creeking. Well making a big helmet is not that hard....but making it functional and still attractive is what is the real challenge.

In Greek mythology, Aegis is the shield of Zeus, furnished with tassels and bearing the Gorgon 's head in the center. Originally symbolic of the storm-cloud, it is probably derived from aisso , signifying rapid, violent motion. A drawing of a Gorgon face, often with snakes protruding wildly and tongue sticking out was frequently placed on doors, walls, coins, shields, breastplates, and tombstones in the hopes of warding off evil. A protection against the evil eye . Blood taken from the right side of a Gorgon could bring the dead back to life, yet blood taken from the left side was an instantly fatal poison.

Also, in Norse Mythology , the dwarf Fafnir wears a helmet named Aegis. Fafnir was a dwarf gifted with a powerful arm and fearless soul. He wore the Aegis helmet and guarded his father's house of glittering gold and flashing gems. He was the strongest and most aggressive of the three brothers.

When we first approached Fred Dijsselbloem, our home shaper who also made the skook model for us, he just burried his head in his hands, shook it ...and started crying. We asked him to make a full cut model that had fast looks, had distictive design feartures that linked back to the skook, wore a 3D symetrical flame pattern al the way around, had perfect size and overall shape and at least a dozen other things. As usual it had to be ready ASAP. How was he gonna make all this from one square piece of foam......But Fred is a genious.....so he did it!
